Challenge

This biopharmaceutical company knew they were falling behind on innovation. The problem was prevalent in their daily work, where protocols moved slowly and legacy colleagues were resistant to change. When an internal survey produced low-innovation scores, executives designated a team to investigate the problem and find a way to build internal capability.

Solution

The investigative team discovered they needed a training initiative to empower staff and build skills across departments. ExperiencePoint helped the company assemble a team of catalysts — employees who help cascade design thinking throughout the organization — by enlisting ambitious people in the company. Twenty catalysts were trained in ExperienceInnovation™ Apply and Train-the-Trainer. These catalysts proceeded to train 80 employees using ExperienceInnovation™ workshops.

Result

With ExperiencePoint’s training, the company radically optimized several of their key systems. They restructured their problem-solving process and implemented it for all new projects going forward. The company also streamlined their process for drug research, testing, protocol review and patient care. Senior managers and employees across departments became empowered to collaborate using design thinking strategies.
